Since 1947, Caudill Seed has grown from a regional seed company into a diversified agricultural business serving customers across the United States and around the world.
For nearly eight decades, one principle has remained constant: understand the product, understand the customer, and execute at every step.
Today, Caudill Seed operates across seed, agricultural inputs, food, processing, distribution, and bioscience. Our businesses serve different markets, but they share the same foundation: deep agricultural knowledge, strong supplier and customer relationships, and a commitment to delivering dependable products at commercial scale.
Nearly 80 Years of Growth
Caudill Seed was founded in Shelbyville, Kentucky, in 1947.
What began as a seed business grew steadily through new markets, new facilities, new capabilities, and generations of leadership. Over the decades, Caudill Seed expanded beyond traditional seed distribution into specialized seed production, agricultural products, sprouting, natural foods, fertilizer, processing, and bioscience.
That growth has never been about expansion for its own sake. It has come from identifying areas where our existing knowledge, relationships, and capabilities could create new opportunities and better serve our customers.
Today, Caudill Seed is entering its third generation, carrying forward nearly 80 years of experience while continuing to invest in the capabilities that will define its future.
From Seed Genetics to Global Supply
Our position in agriculture gives us a perspective that few companies can replicate.
We work at the beginning of the supply chain, where genetics, production, quality, and sourcing decisions ultimately determine the performance of the finished product.
In some markets, we produce seed ourselves. In others, we work directly with leading growers, producers, and manufacturers around the world. Across both, our goal is the same: maintain visibility, expertise, and strong relationships throughout the supply chain so our customers can buy with confidence.
Our capabilities include seed production and sourcing, conditioning and processing, warehousing, distribution, agricultural inputs, specialty ingredients, and large-scale logistics.
Growing Beyond Seed
Caudill Seed has always looked for opportunities to build on what we already know.
Our expertise began with seed, but over the decades that foundation has led us into new markets across agriculture, food, and bioscience.
Through Caudill Sprouting, our seed knowledge helped move the company into the chemical-free sprouting market, serving an industry where seed quality, food safety, consistency, and dependable supply are critical.
That experience also helped expand our presence in natural foods through Whole Alternatives, building on our capabilities in sourcing, processing, packaging, and distribution to serve customers across the natural and specialty food markets.
With Kentucky Fertilizer, Caudill Seed broadened its agricultural footprint further, providing fertilizer, soil amendments, and related products that support growers, turf professionals, and agricultural customers throughout the region.
Our agricultural expertise also opened the door to an entirely different field.
Through CS Health, Caudill Seed began exploring the connection between plant genetics, naturally occurring compounds, and human health. Work with broccoli genetics beginning in the 1990s ultimately led to the development and commercialization of specialized broccoli-derived ingredients used throughout the global nutrition industry.
These businesses may serve very different customers, but they grew from the same foundation.
Seed. Agriculture. Food. Bioscience.
Each represents another chapter in Caudill Seed’s evolution and another way we have turned decades of agricultural knowledge into products, capabilities, and businesses built for the future.
Built to Execute
Our customers rely on us for more than access to products.
They rely on our team to understand the market, manage complex supply chains, solve problems, and deliver.
Decades of experience across agriculture have given our team a practical understanding of production cycles, crop variability, processing, quality requirements, transportation, and inventory management. That experience allows us to anticipate challenges and respond quickly when conditions change.
Whether we are supplying a specialized seed variety, coordinating a large commercial program, processing agricultural products, supporting a food customer, or supplying a global bioscience partner, execution remains at the center of what we do.
A Family Company With a Long-Term View
Caudill Seed remains a family-owned company headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky.
That ownership structure allows us to think differently. We can make investments with a long horizon, develop relationships over decades instead of quarters, and pursue opportunities that may take years to fully mature.
Many of the markets we serve today are the result of decisions made years or even decades ago.
We believe the best opportunities ahead will be built the same way.
Growing the Next Chapter
Caudill Seed continues to invest in the infrastructure, technology, people, and capabilities needed for the next generation of the company.
New processing capacity, expanded distribution infrastructure, advanced manufacturing capabilities, and continued investment in seed genetics and bioscience are extending what Caudill Seed can provide to customers across agriculture, food, and health.
Our business has changed considerably since 1947.
Our purpose has not.
Know the product. Build the supply chain. Deliver for the customer.
Seed Quality and Why It Matters
Caudill Seed is dedicated to supplying the best seeds possible to our clients. We pride ourselves on our ability to acquire seed from all points of the compass to satisfy the requirements of our customers, and are capable of producing blends and mixtures to satisfy environmental demands. Further, we have become adept at producing new and improved varieties of seed and have taken them to market as proprietary products that we wholly own. Our turf managers, in conjunction with select breeders, have been consistently producing these proprietary varieties and have met with much success in our markets.
In addition, we provide a complete range of complementary products to the industries identified above, thereby becoming a “Single-Stop” facility in response to the ever-widening scope of products employed by our customers.
